The Oh Boy show is one of Derek Franks’ great products. As he describes it in the programme, it originated after he decided to move on after succesfully touring with ReelinandaRocking for five years. In the new show the artists can be seen all together, in duets and seperately. The show will change constantly and you may be in for a few nice surprises! We hope this will be the beginning of a new format of Sixties shows!
It’s certainly a golden combination of artists!
I’ve witnessed the show in Margate and Northampton.
The opening is very powerful and promises you
a great night, as they sing:
“All night, all the hits keep coming
from now on you won’t stop humming!
Oh Boy! I guarantee.... Oh Boy!
Just wait and see the stars come out tonight!!!”
Then Chris Farlow is on. He’s really an amazing singer with a fantastic voice!
He was great in the Sixties, but even greater now!
He appears to be a very modest person,
who just loves to sing!
His Handbags And Gladrags and
Out Of Time are really amazing! Wait
till you hear Chris sing the blues!
He’s followed by our man, Proby!!!
PJ has put together a very strong repertoire of eight songs that take you right back to the power of his Sixties! In the Sixties PJ was a mixture of an up tempo rocker as well as a master of emotional ballads! Thus Proby takes you through a scala of emotions. Vanity Fare does a good job in backing Proby. and they really put their power into it! Eddie Wheeler, Mark Ellen and Burney Hagley have played together for over thirty years.
But Proby wouldn’t have been the same without the Sound of Sophie!!! Sophie and PJ work together very closely in what looks almost like a double act. The photos prove Sophie follows PJ closely in all his movements as if she is his shadow and on top of that they even perform a battle!
I definitely think Sophie should be mentioned on the bill!
the songlist:
Together
Masquerade Is Over
Mission Bell
Maria
Hold Me
Somewhere
Lonely Weekends
American Trilogy
A pervect show; this alone is already worth your money!
After PJ, Vanity Fare do a few of their own songs, which give the audience a chance to unwind..... Eddie Wheeler (vocals&guitar), Mark Ellen (drumms), Bernie Hagley (bass/flute) and Steven Oakman (vocals/keyboard/acoustic guitar). Steven is much younger and the son of Peter Oakman from the sixties group The Bruvvers with Joe Brown.
After the break Mike Pender comes on.
He’s a very energetic man, jumping around the stage.
He performs Searchers hits such as Sweets For My Sweets.
He’s followed by Brian Poole who really
manages to get the audience on their feet.
It’s funny to see all us oldies can still
do the twist!
Then the Grande Finale!
Brian Poole opens the song Games People Play and the others all come in, doing their lines. PJ looked stunning, dressed in his red suit with lilac shirt and tie! All the artist are having a great time! Hurray for a happy looking PJ, who certainly proves he can be a team player!!
I think this is a great show and Derek Franks Organisation has certainly succeeded in creating something very special!
